MLAS HAD BETTER CLEAN OUT THEIR DESKS IF PENSION CHANGES OCCUR

Re: Pension changes

Just before the last election, this newspaper published a letter from me stating “Let’s give David Alward a chance and see what he can do.”

This was after he visited the seniors’ building where I live and told us he would do everything in his power to help seniors.

We believed him and we voted for him. Now he is threatening to take part of our pensions.

Many of us worked 30 or 40 years for the government and money was deducted from every pay cheque we received and was put into a guaranteed pension fund. This money was not for the government to squander on other things.

I must remind all the people who are now working for the government in any capacity, this decision will impact your pension when you retire.

Where do the other two parties stand on this issue? I have seen nothing from either of them, which raises the question of who will the thousands of pensioners vote for in the next election.

In the same letter, I said we must reinstate highway tolls so every person can pay their fair share. If this had been done at that time, perhaps we would not be in the economic mess we are in.

Why have the tolls not been implemented? I have asked my MLA more than once and have never received a satisfactory answer.

I have gone out of my way to ask over 100 people about this and not one of them said they would object to paying tolls, yet the government would rather rip off seniors’ pensions than go against the big, rich companies whose vehicles are tearing up our highways.

If the Alward government goes through with this, I believe they will not only have a long legal battle on their hands, but they’d better clean out their desks before the next election because they will not be coming back.
