FREDERICTON – Finance Minister Blaine Higgs says public sector retirees will not lose cost-of-living increases when their pensions are shifted to the shared-risk model.
Higgs said in an interview he wants to set the record straight on “misinformation” which he believes is fuelling opposition to the province’s pension reform.

The term “entitlement” has cropped up in the local paper. It has multiple definitions, but the main one is that an entitlement is a “legally earned” right.
For example, when I did scaffolding, I received my earned “entitlement” called a weekly paycheck; Irving Oil is “entitled” to a city tax break. They earned it through building an LNG plant.

I read “Why we chose shared risk pensions” (May 1) by Marilyn Quinn, Susie Proulx Daigle and Gordon Black with great interest. “Why we chose” says a lot about the process.
