How very strange that, according to Susan Rowland, "The vast majority of pensioners are just fine with the changes we are proposing."Really? And, "When I address groups of retirees, they come up after and thank me."(Retired pensioners fight reform,"March 23.) Really?

Do they say,"Thanks for cutting my pension. I just love that!"?

Recent proposals to solve the provincial government's pension problems by retroactively altering the benefits paid to retirees is bound to generate bitterness. Retirees, and I am one of these in that about 30 per cent of my income comes from the provincial pension, see this as a straight breach of contract matter.

Dear Clifford (Kennedy):

I think it is important for people to understand that this issue affects everyone in the province. Things are NOT as Susan Rowland suggested in Saturday's Telegraph Journal that "the coalition is spreading falsehoods and represents only a small minority of retirees."

Quand un contrat cesse-t-il d’être un contrat? Quand c’est un contrat conclu avec le gouvernement du Nouveau-Brunswick!

À titre de retraités, nous sommes consternés face à l’intention du gouvernement de rompre son contrat de longue date avec nous – fonctionnaires, enseignants, personnel de l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick et employés d’Énergie NB. Nous avons cotisé de bonne foi à notre fonds de pension par des retenues sur la paie pour nous assurer un revenu – et nous avons planifié notre retraite en comptant sur cette pension.
